Beyond Broome

Broome is the gateway to a wealth of cultural tourism opportunities. North of Broome is one of Australia 's best kept secrets - Ardi. Ardi is the local name for the land more commonly known as the Dampier Peninsula .

With unspoilt coastline and tranquil community settings, Ardi offers an opportunity to interact with ‘salt water' people in their home environment. There are many local tours on offer where you can try your hand at traditional fishing, collecting bush tucker or mud crabbing. You could join an expert guide for a scenic boat or fishing charter or go on a cultural tour out to tidal creeks and mangroves. The beaches are perfect for swimming, snorkelling, fishing or you can simply enjoy the open stretches of white sand.

After a day of activity, you can pitch a tent in a family run bush camp and learn about traditional life in these remote areas, or for those looking for a little more comfort, stay in community run cabins with air conditioning and comfortable beds. See the links page for details of accommodation and tours in the Ardi region.
